Our Mighty Oaks students recently explored the meaning of the Sukkah through a creative, hands-on art project. Over the course of two days, the children learned about the purpose of a Sukkah during harvest time and then decorated their own miniature versions to bring the story to life.
Learning Focus
The project began with a discussion about how farmers once used Sukkahs as shady resting places and storage huts during the harvest season. The children connected the Sukkah to themes of rest, protection, and gratitude for food.
- Using cardboard cutouts shaped like Sukkahs, the children decorated their own huts with a mix of materials, including:
- Glue, oil pastels, leaves, and fruit stickers
- Round wooden pieces representing cantaloupes (tying into the letter C)
- Colorful designs drawn inside their Sukkah huts
Each student carefully glued decorations, colored their “cantaloupes” orange, and brought their Sukkahs to life with personal touches.
